The COBie data flow represents the systematic collection of information from the earliest design stages through to construction and facility operation. This process ensures that data is not lost during project handovers.

Data typically flows from BIM authoring tools into the COBie schema via plugins or IFC exports. This structured information is then used to populate Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
